What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Tech Talk In Biblical Terms: Peter has 1000 fishes and he desperately wants to sell them, Paul and the whole village help Peter sell his fish in return for a percentage of his profits. In the Dot Com World Peter is called a "Merchant," "Advertiser," or "Vendor," Paul and the whole village are called "Affiliates" or "Publishers." Affiliate marketing is a business involving promoting other peoples products in exchange for money (commission). Once you start promoting other peoples products you become an affiliate of a person or of a company. To make money for yourself and a merchant - YOU need to market products predominantly via the internet. Hence the terms affiliate internet marketing. A merchant has to agree to pay an affiliate a percentage "Per Sale," "Per Lead" or "Per Click." Some merchants agree to pay an affiliate a higher commission rate if they can generate lots of sales. This is called "Performance Based Commission Structure" which is very popular in the finance and gaming industry.
